The current featured customer is Bex, who has made this stunning paper bag scrapbook!
First step to make a Paper bag album:
Tools needed:
Scissors
Ruler
Double sided sticky tape
Ribbon
Lace
Selection of scrapbook papers and card stock ie:Bazzill all acid and lingin free
Your choice of embellishments there's plenty to choose from :Brads, buttons, rhinestones, prima flowers, charms etc etc
Take three brown block bottom paper bags mine measure 150mm width by 325mm length.
Lay them alternate so that you have a block botton then an open end followed by another block bottom please see the picture to gain a better idea.
Fold each one in half, separately to give a really crisp fold as this will help them to sit together as a book.
Put all three together so that you have a book and with a hole punch put four holes along the left side.
Now your ready to add the ribbon, I tend to cut more than I need because I love ribbon and for me the more ribbon the better the finished album looks, so I tend to measure six inch strips and double knot them around your punched holes!! Grosgrain ribbon doesn't work well for this as it's not easily knotted.
The next step is important to keep your album looking fresh and new cut all your ribbon ends diagonally to give a neat finish I than use a product called 'Fray check' by Gold zack it works by sealing the ribbon to prevent it from fraying and works very well.
The next step is to start the album pages I always do inside the album and leave the front cover until last as Kathryn's creations once glued on dont allow you to apply pressure evenly to stick the page.
I start by cutting my chosen paper or card stock to roughly 5 and three quarter inch square if your using paper as a back ground I tend to back it in to card to give it some extra strength but if your working directly onto card stock then thats strong enough on it's own.
Once your happy with your final lay out of your page then turn it on the wrong side and run double sided tape all around the outside.
Cut your chosen selection of ribbon or lace into three inch strips.
Using double sided tape make tabs by sandwiching the tape between the ribbon or lace.
Decorate the edge of each page: Grograin and sheer ribbon don't work well for this as the tape wont adhere well to them.
When your happy with the lay out add a couple of strips of double sided tape over the ends of the ribbon or lace- see picture
Turn the page on its right side and stick onto the paper bag making sure its central.
Do this for each of the ten pages and watch the effect grow of the layering ribbon and lace. It will looking stunning.
You will of noticed by now that where there is no block bottom on your page there is an opening where the paper bag top is. This is where your secret pocket starts it's life!
You can use this pocket for extra pictures, journaling or a place for special treasure bits and pieces.
I make little tags to go in here with ribbon it's usually good to use up any bits and bobs from your main album and it will match to. My tag sizes range from five inchs by five inchs to smaller ones of two inchs by three inches, although remember anything to small may fall out.
The front is the best bit!!! And with Kathryn's creations it makes it into something really special.
The front cover I've used in this album is easy I've used a ribbon punch to create the holes on a pre-cut piece of bazzill the same size as the album pages.
To create equal spacing between cuts I place a small piece is sticky tape so that it gives me a marker to line up each time I make a cut.
Once your cuts are in place thread your chosen ribbon through leaving enough at each end to neatly fold over the card stock and glue with double sided tape.
Do the same with the lace but you can apply a couple of lines of double sided tape to the wrong side of the lace so that when you put into position on the front cover it stays in place and again leave enough either end to fold over for a neat finish.
Always always use double sided tape never a 'wet' glue this will wreck your pages and you may as well just pour water over the whole thing even if the glue says its 'scrapbooking' glue steer clear it buckles paper and ruins all your hard work.
Position your front page and glue down, I've used some self adhesive rhinestones to add a little extra bling.
Now for your Karacter Kraft finishing touch, I chose the darling baby in bed for the bottom corner and added a couple of rhinestones to match the rest of the page.
To keep her in place I use super glue gel and it works a treat just try not to do what I do and stick everything but the topper to the page and you fingers!!
I do hope you have a go at your own album there sooo much fun and a real personal touch to your memories and with Kathryn's range of toppers it's endless what you can achieve with them.
Here are some more photos of my completed scrapbook pages.
